Description
The DNA blend is a combination of Colombian and Ethiopian coffees. The Colombian part of the coffee blend offers a rich, chocolatey body, while the Ethiopian component cuts through the richness with its bright, apple fruit notes. This blend has a velvety body and great balance between acidity and sweetness, making the DNA Blend great for house drip coffee, espresso, or cold brew.
Colombia Nariño (Washed Process):
This delicious coffee comes from a group of farmers from Nariño! These farmers, hailing from the charming regions of Sandona and Chachauy, joined forces to create something truly special. They start with a simple 24-hour fermentation process that each farmer carries out on their own turf. This is followed by a thorough wash to eliminate any residue. Next, on the drying patio, the beans bask in the sun, forging a consistent profile through mingling and exchanging flavors. This communal drying session ensures a consistent and top-notch profile for each batch. They then let those beans chill in grain pro bags for 125 days before milling — All aspects of the production process create a delightfully sweet Colombian coffee for the DNA Blend.
Ethiopia Guji Mormora (Natural Process):
Mormora Farm’s 200 hectares are mainly comprised of coffees grown under the shade of a forest canopy. Hand-picked coffee cherries are delivered to the processing station. After hand-sorting to remove any unripe, overripe, or damaged fruit, the coffee is laid to dry in direct sunlight on raised beds. Cherries are turned frequently to promote even drying over the course of three weeks.
The Guji region came into the spotlight in the early 2000s when it was discovered that coffee from Guji exhibited unique and distinctive characters that set it apart from its Yirgacheffe and Sidamo neighbors. The landscape is semi-forest, and the coffee trees benefit from the natural canopy and the decomposing foliage debris. The variety of microclimates within Guji alone encourages the development of diverse flavor profiles that present beautifully as both filter and espresso coffee.

This is not an exaggeration: the DNA blend from Lightwave is the greatest flavored espresso bean I have ever had the delight of consuming. It’s so good, that when I order an iced cortado or latte from ANY PLACE that does not have this bean, I am immediately depressed and want to drive back home as soon as possible to make my own drink. I first came into contact with the DNA blend at an incredible coffee shop in Koreatown called SPL (You gotta go if you haven’t yet. Best croissants/bagels I’ve ever had and best coffee/tea drinks. I order the Gibraltar there and it’s *chef’s kiss) I recently moved to a different part of Los Angeles, so now I will be ordering from Lightwave directly to get the best bean there is. It is smooth, creamy, and anytime I pull my own shot – not bitter or acidic at all – just the perfect balance. When I travel out of town, I actually bring the beans with me because nothing else compares. It’s wild. I have been trying out different coffee shops and beans all around LA and DNA still takes the cake. Thank you, Lightwave for producing such wonderful products – but especially the DNA.

I didn’t even know I wanted this until they sent me a bag of it with another order. Best thing that ever happened.
This is one of those coffees I couldn’t stop thinking about after I ran out. The honey flavor was like nothing I’d tasted in any other coffee until then.
The memory of it wouldn’t stop nagging me, so I eventually reordered 🙂

I am glad you enjoyed the DNA! Thanks for ordering again Andrew!
